Deck Construction Permit

Apply for a permit to construct, replace, or expand a deck in Portland. A building permit is required for decks more than 30 inches above grade at any point, decks that serve as required egress, and any deck attached to the structure. Decks 30 inches or less above grade that are freestanding (not attached to the dwelling) and do not serve as required egress are exempt from a building permit, but must still comply with setback requirements.
