Fence Permit

Apply for a permit to construct, replace, or modify a fence on your property in Portland. Building permits are NOT required for: wood fences up to 7 feet, chain link/woven wire fences up to 8 feet, or masonry/concrete fences up to 4 feet. All swimming pool barriers require permits regardless of height. Front yard fences are limited to 3.5 feet. Fences in environmental, historic, or design overlay zones may require additional zoning permits. Portland Zoning Code Title 33 governs fence standards.
