Stairway Construction Permit

Apply for a permit to construct, replace, or modify a stairway in Portland. Building permits are required for new stairway construction, structural modifications to existing stairways, and exterior stairways serving as required egress. Stairways must comply with the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (Section R311.7) for residential buildings or the Oregon Structural Specialty Code (Section 1011) for commercial buildings. Portland Zoning Code Title 33 governs setback requirements for exterior stairways.
